The Powerpoint reduction here is an introduction to gas exchange...it focuses upon multicellular organisms: Plants and Animals. The unicellular organisms including prokaryotes, protists, chromists, rhodophytes, and all but the reproductive bodies of fungi simply use diffusion from the surrounding medium. The surrounding medium is in direct contact with each cell. Multicellular organisms must have more sophisticated mechanisms.
